That\u2019s what I\u2019m doing here,\u201d she says, expecting me to come closer. I shake my head, \u201cNo, no, not again, you do this every time, I\u2019m no-,\u201d but before I can eject myself from the scene, she has fully wrapped her body around my leg, locking me in place. \u201cPlease look,\u201d she says and signs with her head towards the puddle, \u201cI just need to know if you\u2019re real.\u201d<\/p>\n

I look down to inspect Baby\u2019s projected content, which appears to contain slightly digested pasta letters. \u201cWhere did you get those?\u201d I ask. \u201cCupboard. It holds everything, including this canned alphabet soup.\u201d There\u2019s a pause. I read, the letters spell out her name. \u201cYou wrote your name,\u201d I say. \u201cYes,\u201d she nods, \u201ccorrect.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cYou can let me go now,\u201d I mutter as I twist my leg, \u201cI managed to read what your vomit spelled out there,\u201d but Baby Palindrome is not loosening her grip. I can feel our sped-up heartbeats synchronize. \u201cI need you to sign a contract,\u201d her voice muffled by pressing her face against my calf. \u201cWhy, what contract?\u201d As I frown down on her, she pulls a pen from behind her ear, which is connected to the inside of her ear canal by a metal chain. \u201cJust, sign here,\u201d she says as she taps with one finger on her forehead while her other hand holds up the pen for me. My hand accepts the pen, tightening the chain. \u201cBut what does the contract stand for?\u201d I ask again.
