JAMAL
#7
Réda Faklani
Curator : Marine Candova
16385 Rue de la Cathédrale
Réda Faklani is a Belgian artist who approaches design after having earnt his stripes in fashion. He worked for a long time with stylists such as Iris van Herpen or Jean Paul Lespagnard. A significant and obvious influence when we look at his work. An unusual point of view, he breaks the codes of interior design and does not hesitate to extend the range of possibilities of the objects he revisits.
His latest artwork, Jamal, part of the Art at Centre # 7 course, under the leadership of the AMO gallery, features two floating carpets.
Here, the object is completely taken out of its basic register, namely the interior of a house to make it float on water. An ironic wink following the floods experienced by his city of residence, Liège.
Born in Morocco, the artist is deeply imbued with his maternal culture and does not hesitate to mix it with the cultural codes of his host country, Belgium.
