Julie Krakowski
Curator : Marjorie Ranieri
1645 Rue Chéravoie
Julie Krakowski is a French artist who lives and works in Brussels. She mostly works with flexible materials to create ambivalent pieces. References to textile are also omnipresent in her work, as much in the different techniques she displays as in the supports and materials she uses.
The diversity of the gestures involved and the probation of the materials (drill / burn / embroider / jab / rust / print / deweave, reweave / braid / squeeze / tie…) are the fundamentals of a complex and intuitive language.
Julie Krakowski hybrids the feelings, fosters the meeting and the dialogue between a multitude of notions. A constellation of meanings cohabit and hang together ; oscillating between questions related to the identity, the body, the role of fashion and the femininity. She also questions the passage of time and goes deeply into an archeology of the memory.
Through a fluid sculptural process, she explores interstitial zones between hardness and softness, outline and shape, gestures and habits.
Several sculptures displayed at Art au Centre #7 are the result of a collaboration with glass blower Jean Charles Miot in the Martell Foundation’s Ateliers du Faire. The plastic artist resided there to create glass and textile hybrid pieces.
