Yayoi Kusama x Louis Vuitton Spotted Everywhere
#12
Wouter van der Giessen
Artist selected as part of the call for projects
29628 Rue des Carmes
In Januari 2023 Louis Vuitton launched a new collaboration with the 94 years old, wold famous artist Yayoi Kusama. A collection covered in blue, red, yellow, green and white dots. Promoting this new collection the facades of the big Louis Vuitton stores in London, New York, Paris etc. where covered in these colorful dots. And now, they pop up in all kinds of other city’s as well. In places where there aren’t even Louis Vuitton stores located. At first seen in Breda, The Netherlands. Now they are here in Liège ! Well at least is seams like it ? Or maybe it’s a low budget alternative ? Or is it a piece of art by the young artist Wouter van der Giessen (1995) from The Netherlands. He uses the same colors in his work. Van der Giessen responds to our way of seeing and recognizing with his colorful work. He explores icons with a playful and repetitive way of working. So maybe it’s him comparing his own way of working with a famous artist like Yayoi Kusama ? Who knows where we can spot more dots in the future. By Wouter van der Giessen or by Yayoi Kusama.
