David Cummings

Collection Uhoda

15625 Rue Saint Paul

Influenced by Paul Cézanne’s palette and shapes, American artist David Cummings mainly works on the color. Active since the 1960s, he has adapted his paintings under three different series, respectively made of hands, clouds and graffiti. His spray paintings represent a real explosion of colors. Entirely covered with sprayed undulations repeating the same gesture, they show an abstract composition that is similar to certain action painting artworks. The juxtaposition of so many colors also questions the connection between each of those. David Cummings turns it into a daring testing, similar to what a musician could do with his notes. His spray technique further refers to the modes of expression of street art.
